Service Catalogue vital to help business improve, survey finds
8th February 2010, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, UK…. According to a survey by Axios Systems, the majority of organisations see the importance of a Service Catalogue, with 64% implementing or looking to implement one in the next 6 months and only a small percentage (3.6%) not considering it.
According to the report, "Service Catalogues are seen as the method by which organisations can demonstrate the value of their services and accelerate their ITIL maturity. Not implementing a Service Catalogue can be detrimental to the continual improvement of the organisation. "
The study was conducted in November and December 2009 and is based on responses from over 1200 IT professionals from North America, Europe and Asia. It found the majority (65%) of Service Catalogue projects that have started, or are due to start, are driven by the IT department. Just 24% are driven by the business. Only half (53%) of those surveyed believed they had a good understanding of what customers expect from the services provided, indicating a need for increased knowledge and research for the Service Catalogue project to be a success and more dialogue between IT and service owners.
Sharon Taylor, President, AGI & ITIL V3 Chief Architect said, "By helping the business understand the benefits that will be derived by a Service Catalogue implementation, IT will be able to prove its value. The challenges of implementing a Service Catalogue project can be minimised if the IT department and the business realise they are working together to reach the same end goal."
Ailsa Symeonides, Sales & Marketing Director, Axios Systems, said, "Gaining buy-in from the business is essential for a successful Service Catalogue project. Axios can help organisations build a strong and convincing business case around a Service Catalogue implementation, which will enable them to prove its value."
Richard Pharro, CEO, APMG-International said, "The Axios survey provides conclusive evidence about the importance of Service Catalogue. We are now able to offer IT professionals the chance to gain a recognized Service Catalogue qualification. This enables candidates to continue their professional development and will give organizations the assurance that those responsible for establishing and maintaining Service Catalogues are competent and knowledgeable."
APMG-International, an accredited ITIL Examination Institute, launched a Service Catalogue qualification in November 2009. The qualification is complementary to the ITIL V3 certification scheme, and is recommended by IQC, itSMFI's International and Certification Subcommittee. Attaining the qualification gives candidates 1.5 credits towards the ITIL V3 Expert certification.
