APMG-International to launch certification scheme for project managers working in development agencies
7th April 2010, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, UK…. APMG-International is launching PMD Pro - a new competency-based certification for project managers working in development agencies - on April 22nd 2010.
The scheme has been developed in partnership with LINGOs and PM4NGOs specifically for those working in charities, humanitarian agencies and not for profit organizations.
The PMD Pro standard is aligned with existing internationally-recognized project management standards, and includes components specific to the NGO sector. It comprises three levels:
PMD Pro level 1 is as an introduction to those new to project management, and serves as a refresher for those with experience working in a project-based environment.
PMD Pro level 2 comprises elements of an internationally-recognized entry-level project management certification plus contextualized components which are more specific to the development sector.
PMD Pro level 3 comprises an industry-recognized project management certification plus the contextualized components from Level 2 and an assessment of experience, which focuses on evidence that the candidate is able to apply his or her project management knowledge effectively.
The launch of the certification scheme will take place at the NCVO Centre in London and will be attended by:
- Richard Pharro, CEO, The APM Group
- John Cropper, Programme Manager, Oxfam
- Eric Berg, Executive Director, LINGOs
- Chris Cattaway, Managing Director, Global Achievement.
Chris Cattaway has worked with PM4NGOs since its inception helping devise PMD Pro and has led pilots of the curriculum in four countries.
He said, "The development of the PMDPro Qualification will be of huge benefit for NGOs and other development organizations. A universally-recognized standard will help organizations manage the performance and development of staff. Sharing a common vocabulary and understanding should make it easier to work together quickly and efficiently - all of which means being able to be more accountable to beneficiaries."
The PMD Pro qualification is available online from April 22nd 2010. It is easy to access and affordable for those working in remote locations, particularly in developing and least developed countries.
